Watercolour Tutorial (simple)
This is my first tutorial for water colour pencils. I've called this one "simple" because it only uses two different watercolour pencils and is a reasonably simply design.

The Rebel Alliance symbol from Star Wars!!!
The Rebel Alliance symbol from Star Wars!!!
For this picture you will need:
thick artist paper (printer paper will not do)
paintbrush
3B artist pencil
red watercolour pencil
orangey/yellow watercolour pencil
plastic plate (for mixing)
container for water
scissors (sorry I forgot to put them in the picture)
Step 1: Use 3B pencil to draw a light outline of your picture on the artist paper. You can always trace one if you need to.
Step 2: This step would probably make professional artists cringe but here goes... I use a pair of scissors (or a sharp knife) to shave of bits off the colour pencil tip.
Step 3: Use your paintbrush to mix water with the shaving to create a sort of thin paint.
Step 4: Make red watercolour paint the same way.
Step 5: Use the red paint to fill in the symbol.
Step 6: Take some of the yellow paint and add it to the remaining red paint to make a sort of orange. Try to make this paint quite thin as it will be used to colour the background.
Step 7: Apply the thin "orange" paint to the background around the symbol. Instead of using brushstrokes try dabbing with the paintbrush.
Step 8: Take your red watercolour pencil and use it to shade around the edges. (IMPORTANT: Make sure your paper is wet when you do this shading or it will not turn out very well) Make sure the surface under your picture is firm and try not to press to hard or you may rip hole in the wet paper.
Step 9: Use the red pencil to lightly shade around the outside of the symbol.
Step 10: Wait for your picture to dry then take the 3B artist pencil and darken the outline.
Step 11: (I know this is getting awfully long... I promise it's nearly finished) Take the remaining yellow paint (the stuff you didn't use to make the orange) and use it to paint around the outside of the symbol (it should blend with the red pencil you added in step 9)
And now your finished!!! YAY!!! Sorry this tutorial was so long but I wanted to add a lot of pictures to make it easier to understand each step! I hope you find it useful!!! ^-^
